Tim Turner Comment by Tim Turner on September 4, 2008 at 5:09pm
Hi Mugaruka. This is Tim Turner, nice to know you. I can't talk about the kibodi but the guitar I can. Do you own a guitar? If not you need to get one. Hang it up on the wall or have it on a stand where its easy to get to and you'll tend to pick it up more and play it. Whetther you have formal lessons or not you need to play it on a regular basis. Its a repetitive thing. Keep doing it over and over and if you don't have a strong desire and interest to do this learning to play will take longer and I have even seen people just quit trying. I've been playing 40 years now and never had any lessons and when I look back and ask why I play it always comes back to the fact that I love holding the guitar and going through the mechanics of playing on it and getting the sounds out of it and basically making music from it. So the love to play it needs to be there and the mechanics of playing it will come just be patient. Find your natural playing style and stick with that. Remember to stick with the basics at first and keep practicing. Some of the greatest songs ever written and recorded started with a simple melody played on the guitar and built up from that. The Beatles and Pink Floyd are examples of that. You don't have to be a speedster to be a good guitarist you just need to put the notes in the right place at the right time. Less is more so just pick it up and start your practices and don't stop, you'll be singing your lyrics to the guitar sooner then you think.
There are some really great books too to assist you to learn. Let me know if you need help. Rock on...
